LIVE JAZZ - 2  nights and 1 day a week - Free Entry!

Eighty Queen Street's Jazz will be changing for the better as of May 2005. We are continuing our Monday Night Jam Sessions and we have also secured 'The Mellatones' with the legendary Jimmy Taylor as our Resident Band on Saturday afternoons, playing from 2-5pm every week. Our third and final jazz session of the week is in the form of our cool, relaxed 80QS House Band with live vocalists every week, playing on Saturday nights from 9pm-12am.

Our Monday evening jazz jam and "open  mic" session is as popular as ever. If you play a musical instrument or want to try out your vocal skills, then come down an join our weekly session every Monday between 9pm and Midnight.

We have a stellar house trio who back the many musicians coming to the jam and open mic session. What's more, we are especially delighted to have one of the best young jazz pianists to emerge in recent years as our resident Monday evening pianist. Chris Lyons is still in his teens, yet his piano playing has the maturity of someone many years older. Completing the trio line-up is  the vastly experienced rhythm section of Owen MacDonald (double bass) and Kevin Dorrian ( drums)

Eighty Queen Street is arguably the busiest bar and restaurant in central Edinburgh on a Monday night, so please come along and join in the fun. The jam session is open to the novice and experienced musician alike and you'll find there's no better way to get used to playing in front of an enthusiastic audience

Saturday Afternoons - 'The Mellatones' with Jimmy Taylor, 2-5pm

Lunchtime Jazz with a variable trio of excellent piano, drums and bass with the smooth vocals of Jimmy Taylor.  This session sets a cool and relaxed ambience whilst you enjoy our our delectable food menu, or just relax at the bar and enjoy our extensive drinks list.

Saturday Evenings - The 80 Queen Street House Band with Live Vocalists, 9-12pm

This is a bit special!  This hand-picked high-quality 4 or 5-piece band will knock your socks off!  It's a 'regular' quartet or quintet but with an ever-changing line-up with live vocalists every week, selected from the best of Scotland's jazz players.  Close your eyes and you could be sitting in Ronnie Scott's Club!  The band plays arrangements of modern jazz classics, music by Miles, Parker, Monk, Silver, Mingus....and more.  Great music, great players, great sound...and great venue!
